The Curriculum

The Barcelona Masterclass is full of action-packed education that will energize and inspire you to be the very best photographer you can be.  With three world-renowned instructors at the helm, this class will teach you the very best in creative lighting, composition, and post-processing techniques. The class goes from sunup to sundown…and then some. You will eat, drink, and sleep photographic creativity and form new friendships that will last for a lifetime.

Using a diverse array of activities and lessons, Clay, David, and Jared create a learning environment that teaches with lectures, studio practice, professional models, street shooting, on-location lighting, group activities, and post-processing exercises. Topics include how to make your lighting exciting, how to make your images come to life using off-camera flash, how to harness the power and beauty of natural light, how to pre-visualize composition in your mind's eye, how to master the art of posing, and how to harness the full potential of post-processing.

Models, Models, Models

Build your portfolio! The class is taught using professional European models that will make your photos truly stand out from the crowd.

Your Classroom

The historic Silken Gran Havana Hotel will be the site of our classroom and the jumping-off point for our exciting street shooting sessions.  Located in the heart of Barcelona at the edge of the Gothic Quarter, this beautiful hotel features a rooftop pool and deck that the class will be using for teaching and group gatherings.

You will be staying in one of 22 beautifully-appointed rental condos located across the street from the hotel. Better than a hotel room, your seven-night stay features the comfort and flexibility of full kitchens and living rooms.  Available in studio, one, and two bedroom configurations, there’s an option for everyone: attendees, family, and/or friends.

This experience is as much about great food as it is great photography!  Designed to introduce you to the best of Spanish and Catalan cuisine, the masterclass includes all meals on class days—including wine.  We’ll start each day with a deluxe breakfast buffet at the hotel, and lunch and dinner will be served at an array of trendy tapas bars and gourmet restaurants.

What to Bring

Camera Gear: Your camera, your best lenses, speedlight flashes (if you have them), a reflector, and a laptop.

Clothing and Toiletries: It’s best to bring all the clothing you need for the week, however every condo features a washing machine in each unit (there are no dryers).  The condos provide an initial supply of soap, but bring whatever toiletries you need with you, or plan to visit one of the many shops within walking distance.

Temperatures in Barcelona will average a very pleasant 73 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 59 degrees at night, so jackets/sweaters are recommended. The chance of rain is minimal, but bring a light rain jacket just in case.

The Barcelona airport is a popular and busy airport in Europe and is well-served by all major U.S. airlines*.  The condos are located in the Gothic Quarter, which is a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport and costs approximately 30 Euros.  Public transportation in Barcelona is robust, and there is no parking available at the condos so rental cars are discouraged.  *MZed recommends Delta airlines and has arranged a modest discount for all students who choose to fly Delta.

$2,895 per person attending the class, which includes accommodations for seven nights, all meals on class days, model fees, and all education.

Prices start at just $650 additional for family members or friends who are not attending class but will share your room, and discounts are available for multiple people who sign up for the class. For any of these scenarios, please contact us for details.

EZPAY: If desired, an EZPAY plan breaks the cost into three $1000 payments. A $1000 deposit is required to reserve your spot, $1000 is due on April 1st, and the balance of $1000 is due June 1st. EZPAY is available online, just click the REGISTER button above.

"As a two time participant in Clay & David's international master class - first in Tuscany and then in Budapest - I can honestly say that taking each class was a profoundly positive experience on multiple levels.  The instructional experience was superb and provided tremendous insight into advanced portraiture skills primarily through location driven and very hands on and interactive photo shoots.  In addition to the technical instruction and opportunity to practice, the camaraderie amongst all the students and staff - people from all walks of life and literally from around the world - was equally as enjoyable and satisfying.  Congrats to the team at MZed for putting together some of the finest master class opportunities and life experiences that a photographer can have." - Jeff Reale
